This book seeks to address the issue of beauty from various perspectives and transmit, in the terms of beauty, the main notion that the practice of dentistry and dental technology do much more than to serve only the frivolous cosmetic ideals or the vanity of our patients. Beauty is a fundamental principle of our lives. We are gifted with the gift of perceiving beautiful things that make life worth living. It is the recognition of the value of beauty in everything we do what gives our work a true value and generates a high degree of meaning for us.
The first section illuminates several theoretical aspects of beauty and, although this book is intended to dedicate itself to the theme of beauty, terms like the following will be used :,,. These terms are firmly rooted in our vocabulary and, therefore, can not be avoided in a book like this.
The chapter of the second section deals with the concrete objects of our work: the teeth and their relationship with the smile on our face. The teeth (and, to a certain extent, the gum) are something that we can influence and reform and, therefore, we have to be competent as to understand the nature of its appearance, but this knowledge is not only limited to its appearance, but also to the development, structure and function of our teeth.
